Nurture Your Spirit: 10+ Practices for Cultivating Appreciation and Gratitude

10/31/2024

Appreciation practices can help expand intuition, bring peace, and strengthen your connection to universal energy through practices like craniosacral therapy/bodywork/movement, Akashic Reiki, guided meditation, and Energy Medicine Yoga.

1. Featured Practice: Daily Gratitude Journaling
What it is: The power of writing down what you appreciate each day.
How to practice: Set aside time each morning or night to list 3 things you are grateful for, and why. This could be physical, emotional, or spiritual aspects of your life.
Benefits: Enhances your awareness of the blessings in your life and shifts your mindset to focus on abundance rather than lack.
As Lauren Walker says in her book “The Energy Medicine Yoga Prescription”, “If you can rewire yourself to feel thankful for what you do have, instead of feeling miserable for what you don't have, you will see the small irritations of your life and the big challenges of your life start to fade. Try spending some time on a regular basis giving thanks for what you already have. Living in a place of gratitude allows big magic in your life. Once you start to welcome in magic - and recognize and give thanks for it - you'll start to see magic show up all over the place. it's like mycelium; it's everywhere, just waiting to sprout!”

2. Craniosacral Therapy/Bodywork/Movement for Body Appreciation
What it is: Tuning into your body’s innate wisdom through gentle touch, physical movement, or receiving bodywork.
How to practice: Use a few moments when moving your body, receiving bodywork/massage/ craniosacral therapy to silently thank each part of your body for its role in supporting you.
Benefits: Cultivates a deep sense of appreciation for your body’s healing capabilities and innate wisdom.

3. Energy Healing Meditation for Gratitude
What it is: Akashic Reiki or other Energy Healing as a tool for appreciating your soul's journey.
How to practice: Gently rest in meditation with the intention to receive and channel Unconditional Love, Life-force Energy from the Loving Universe/Source.  As the energy flows, focus on feelings of gratitude for your spiritual growth and any insights you receive.
Benefits: Deepens your appreciation for the energy and guidance that flows through you.

4. Oracle/Tarot Card Practice for Appreciation
What it is: Using oracle or tarot cards to reflect on what you appreciate about yourself and your current path.
How to practice: Perform a card reading with the intention of gaining insight into what you can be thankful for in your life. Write down the messages and reflect on how they connect to your journey.
Benefits: Enhances self-awareness and reinforces a sense of trust and appreciation for the guidance you receive.

5. Energy Medicine Yoga for Gratitude Activation
What it is: Combining yoga with energy healing techniques to boost feelings of gratitude.
How to practice: During your yoga practice, focus on specific energy points (such as the heart chakra) and breathe deeply into those areas, allowing appreciation to flow into every cell.
Benefits: Clears emotional blockages and opens the heart to gratitude and appreciation.

6. Additional Practices for Cultivating Appreciation
Gratitude Walk in Nature: Take a mindful walk in nature, appreciating every tree, breeze, cloud, or bird you encounter.
Loving-Kindness Meditation: Focus on sending appreciation to yourself and others.
Appreciation Letters: Write a letter to yourself or someone else expressing your gratitude.
Sacred Space Cleansing with Intention: Clear your space with sage or essential oils, focusing on appreciation for the energetic flow in your environment.
Self-Appreciation Ritual: Spend time in front of a mirror, appreciating every part of yourself with loving words.

The Ongoing Journey of Appreciation
Regularly practicing appreciation can have many profound and lasting benefits including heightened intuition, emotional resilience, and a stronger connection to yourself and the world.  I encourage you to explore one or more practices and invite you to share your journey of gratitude.

Some of my favorite Grounding Practices

9/11/2024

Seasonal transitions, wild and erratic collective energies, solar flares, eclipse season, planetary retrogrades, overthinking, anxiety, perimenopause, C*VID, and all the things -- more than enough reasons to start, expand, or solidify our Grounding Practices.
And what is Grounding?
Grounding is the practice of connecting with the present moment and anchoring yourself to the earth, helping to stabilize your energy and emotions. It involves techniques that draw your awareness to your body and surroundings, such as deep breathing, visualization, or physical contact with nature, like walking barefoot on grass. Grounding helps you feel centered, calm, and balanced, reducing anxiety and stress by bringing you back to a state of physical and emotional presence. It's a powerful way to feel more connected to yourself and the world around you, promoting overall well-being.
Here are some of my favorite Grounding Practices:
  1. Earth Neurovascular Reflex Points Hold (Energy Medicine Yoga technique)- Cover your eye sockets with your palms, gently resting the heels of your hands on your cheekbones.  Hold here for several easy breaths.
  2. Spooning the feet -  rub a stainless steel spoon on all areas of the feet; the soles, tops, and toes. An Eden Energy Medicine technique.
  3. Earthing (Walking Barefoot), sitting with feet or body in grass/sand, grounding mat for 10-20 minutes daily. Gently breathe and feel your connection to Mother Earth, allowing it to absorb any negative or heavy energy/emotions/feelings to be recycled.
  4. Connecting with Nature, nature walk in neighborhood or nearby park. Spend time in nature, whether walking, gardening, or simply sitting under a tree. Nature naturally absorbs and transforms heavy energy.
  5. Water!  Ocean, lake, creek… and/or Salt Bath or Salt Scrub. Float, swim, wade, dip your feet into water, again enjoying being in and connected to Nature. When that's not available, soak in a bath with Epsom salt or use a salt scrub in the shower. Salt and water help to cleanse and release absorbed energy.
  6. Grounding Cord activation/connection Meditation. Gently inhale through the nose, filling the belly with air, and exhale while visualizing/imagining/intending/sensing an energetic cord extending from the base of your spine into the earth’s core. Imagine sending excess energy down the cord and receiving stabilizing earth energy back
  7. Boundary bubble of highest light activation/Visualization. Envision yourself surrounded by an energetic bubble of light that allows only the highest light or your own stuff to enter, all else is directed elsewhere.
  8. Body Scan Meditation - with your Grounding Cord and Boundary bubble in place, then Close your eyes and mentally scan your body from head to toe, acknowledging any tension or emotional heaviness. Imagine releasing these feelings into the earth.
  9. Receive Craniosacral Therapy sessions -  receiving gentle, yet profound healing bodywork has helped many people (especially me)  feel more “in their bodies”  or other bodywork
  10. Weighted Blanket, small sandbag, heating pad or Pressure Points. Use a weighted blanket or press down gently on pressure points, such as the palms or the tops of the feet, to feel physically grounded. I sleep with my weighted blanket covering my lower body/legs.
  11. Holding a Grounding Stone. Use crystals like black tourmaline, hematite, or smoky quartz. Hold the stone in your hand and visualize it absorbing any unwanted energy. Remember to clear the stone occasionally, using your hand/intention to "wipe" the stone and shake your hand off, sending the energies to the Earth for recycling.
  12. Sound Healing with Drumming or Singing Bowls. Use drumming, singing bowls, or grounding sounds like a low hum to connect with your body’s natural rhythm and the earth’s vibrations. I try to attend local sound baths as often as I can. You may also be able to find virtual or recording sound healing/bath sessions on Youtube, Insight timer, and more.

See what you think. Try the ones that resonate with you, leave the rest.
I'd love to hear about what works for you in the comments : )
